Finally we have someone to
love the beautiful, stately Queen Anne on University Blvd. and 6th
Ave.
For years the community has wondered what was
to become of the historic Gardiner/Ramsey house on the SW of 6th
and University in the West University Historic District. Built by
Tucson’s famous Rondstadt Family for Anna Ramsey Gardiner in 1899
and later home to Pepe’ Rondstadt, the home is unique in Tucson.
In the 1950’s it was known as Mattie Backer’s Boarding House and was
converted to spacious studio apartments with kitchens. The
community calls it “The Big Blue House on the corner” for obvious
reasons.
In September of 2005 it was purchased by Lea
Ramsey and converted into a very nice, upscale bed and breakfast.
Ramsey has noted the coincidence of the same last name as the
original owner and feels that Anna Ramsey would appreciate
“restoring the beautiful old lady back to her glory”. “The house
was divided up into apartments in the 50’s. The rooms all have
kitchens so it they are perfect for extended stay. As a Tucson Bed
and breakfast, this is our first year in business but we have found
a real need for our extended stay facilities. And of course we have
a great location.”
During the recent 2006 Tucson Historic Home
Tour we were able to view the wonderful restoration the property.
Good job!
